Re: Measure 18-122

The Central Cascades Fire & EMS Board is asking for voter support of a Fire District Operations Levy in the amount of $0.26 per / $1,000 assessed valuation for the next 5 years. This Operations Levy, Measure 18-122, will replace an existing District Operations Levy, of the same amount, which replaced a previous Bond Levy that supported initial fire station construction from the beginning of district operations.  In November 2017 the district completed payment of the Bond that was passed in 1997.  This Bond was replaced by an Operations Levy to help fund district reserve accounts allowing the district to fund apparatus and equipment repairs and replacements as needed.

The Fire District Board is asking to continue the previous Operations Levy amount of $0.26 / $1,000 valuation.  The permanent tax rate for the district is $2.247/ $1,000 assessed valuation. That will mean $2.247 permanent rate plus the $0.26 for the Operations Levy to make a total $2.50 / $1,000 for the next five years, the same as the current level.

This amount will allow us to plan for equipment repairs and replacements on a reasonable schedule as equipment reaches its useable lifespan.  While this amount will not completely fund needed reserve accounts or pay for apparatus replacement, this will help keep us on a fiscally responsible reserve schedule going forward and reduce our reliance on loans and lease programs.

As we move forward in cooperation with neighboring districts, this plan will help us to support needed emergency services in northern Klamath County as we continue to serve the Crescent Lake Community and surrounding areas.

Ballots are scheduled to be mailed out on April 27, 2022.

Ballots are due on or before Election Day, May 17, 2022.  The Ballot Drop off Site is located at Walker Range on Hwy 97 in Crescent.

Thank you for your support,

Central Cascades Fire & EMS Board of Directors
